Climbing Kilimanjaro

Facts

Height: 5895m above sea level
Location: 330 km south of the equator / Google Map
Three peaks:
1. Shira (3962m)
2. Mawenzi (5149m)
3. Uhuru Peak (5895m)
When to go: Dry seasons between January and March & July and October (supposed to be very clear and dry during the day). We should head in during the period July and October. To be specific July would be best since the later one makes it the colder it will be. Otherwise January, February, July, August and September are all popular climbing months.
Temparature: It is estimated that the temparature drops 1 degree C with every increase in 200 meters
Length of climb: depends on the route however, estimate for 5 days
There are four routes:
1. The Marangu Route <My preferred route>
2. The Machame Route
3. The Mweka Route (The toughest and most direct route up to the summit)
4. The Shira Route

Accomodation: Each route has camps (huts). The Marangu Route has 3 huts on the way

First component: Accomodation and Guide
It is recommended to join a group since the cost will be lower

Vehicle Surcharge *$120 per group on the Lemosho and Rongai Routes
Crater Camp Surcharge *$140 per person per night for camping in the crater. This is only available at special request.
